GRAFFITESTI (CHILE)

National Cancer Institute uses sticker interventions in obscene graffiti to teach how to detect testicular tumors.

Brief Description

Exploring drawings of penises in public places and giving them new meaning is the core of the Graffitesti project, created for the National Cancer Institute in Chile.

The proposal is to enhance the entity’s task of educating and generating greater awareness about the disease among the population.

Penises drawn in Santiago had hand stickers placed on them, with information on how to perform a testicle palpation test, illustrating three stages of self-examination: touch, repeat, and check. A filter (@graffitesti) has also been launched so anyone can use it on Instagram.

Why is it significant?

Graffiti creatively tackles a sensitive health topic, promotes self-examination, engages the community, leverages social media, aligns with a health organization’s mission, and is memorable and shareable. It demonstrates the potential for innovative approaches to public health awareness campaigns.
